The Persol 3-D Award for the most creative 3-D film of the year

Venice, Italy, 09.10.2010 - From 21:00 To 23:50

The Persol 3-D Award is the first international prize of its kind, awarded to the film that has used stereoscopic 3-D in the most creative way. It was instituted for the first time in 2009 at the 66th Venice International Film Festival, and was awarded in its inaugural edition to The Hole 3D by Joe Dante, one of this summer’s Italian box-office “surprises”.

The Persol 3D Award will be presented during a ceremony in the Sala Perla (Palazzo del Casinò) at 8:00 p.m., on Friday September 10th, at the eve of the closing day at the 67th Venice International Film Festival (September 1-11, 2009), directed by Marco Müller and organized by La  Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Paolo Baratta.

At the end of the ceremony, there will be a presentation of Taikong xia 3D (Space Guy) by Zhang Yuan (China), the first 3D stereoscopic film from mainland China, where the enfant terrible of the Sixth generation now takes up animation, and the highly anticipated film by Takashi Shimizu, Senritsu meikyu 3D (Shock Labyrinth 3D).

The award – which is connected to Persol, sponsor of the Venetian festival for the sixth year – will be attributed this year again to the most creative of the 3D films distributed in Italy (or shown as a world premiere screening in Italian film festivals) between September 11 2009 and September 10 2010.

The Persol 3-D Award celebrates this new frontier of film language, which is attracting enormous creative attention from filmmakers and producers, and is greatly enjoyed by audiences.

The latest generation of Stereoscopic 3-D is a way of watching films which is focusing attention back on cinema theatres, and which has been seen as a crucial turning point in the history of film, a “third cinematic revolution” (after sound and colour). In 2010, stereoscopy is undergoing a powerful acceleration in the research and production of 3D devices.

At this moment the most important authors and Studios are working with stereoscopic 3D, adapting it to both animation and live action, and there is an increasing number of films conceived and produced for latest-generation stereoscopic 3-D.
