Making of OneSight's 7 Million – A Look Back
Milan, Italy, 06.17.2009
Since 1988, we’ve helped 7 million people see their world more clearly. Today, we celebrate Mistie-Lea, our 7 millionth recipient. Here’s a look
back at our Millionth Milestones over the years.
- Jessica, OneSight’s 1 Millionth Recipient: In 1999, OneSight volunteers in Portland, Oregon, USA helped our 1 Millionth Recipient Jessica, age 6. Jess had terrible vision and was struggling in school. The minute she put on her new glasses, a huge smile erupted across her face.
- Julia, OneSight’s 2 Millionth Recipient: In 2001, the OneSight Bolivia Global Clinic team helped our 2 Millionth Recipient Julia, a grandmother. After receiving her very first pair of glasses from our Clinic, Julia raced home to see the faces of her twin grandchildren for the first time.
- Gabriel, OneSight’s 3 Millionth Recipient: In 2003, Gabriel, a 6-year-old in Ecuador was given the gift of sight by the OneSight Global team. Never having received glasses before, Gabriel was now able to see to learn in school and play with his friends.
- Hanna, OneSight’s 4 Millionth Recipient: In 2005, OneSight volunteers at a Regional Clinic in upstate New York, USA helped our 4 Millionth Recipient Hanna, age 14. After three months without glasses and a very high prescription, Hanna was now able to see and was excited to get back to school to improve her grades.
- LaVonte, OneSight’s 5 Millionth Recipient: In 2006, 11-year-old LaVonte became OneSight’s 5 Millionth Recipient. Helped at a Regional Clinic in Chicago, USA, LaVonte was now able to see clearly to learn in school and play basketball, his favorite sport.
- Victory, OneSight’s 6 Millionth Recipient: In 2007, the OneSight Thailand Global Clinic team gave the gift of sight to our 6 Millionth Recipient Victory, a middle-aged Monk. Before receiving his glasses, Victory was forced to quit teaching. Now, he is not only able to resume his teachings, but has a much clearer view of the world around him.
- Mistie-Lea, OneSight's 7 Millionth Recipient: On June 17, 2009, OneSight volunteers helped 17 year-old Mistie-Lea during a Regional Clinic in Australia. Mistie-Lea was having difficulty concentrating in school. Now she knows it was because she couldn’t see very well. She’s eager to get back into the classroom and make a better life for herself!
