OneSight and Luxottica celebrate each millionth recipient with enthusiasm and great pride. This week brought the exciting news of our 7 millionth recipient of the gift of sight at a homeless screening in Sydney, Australia.
Australia's Salvation Army organisation has seen a steady increase in the number of people needing their help and for the homeless, eyecare is often one of the first things to be neglected. This three day clinic saw an Australian OneSight team target this community and offer much needed vision care in a safe and comfortable environment.
Over the three days, a total of 309 people were screened, with 245 requiring a full eye test. Of these, 234 required prescription glasses. This is an enormous feat with the OneSight volunteers working long hours to ensure everyone was screened. Additionally, the Australian manufacturing facility, EyeBiz committed - and delivered - on turning around all jobs within 24 hours.
At 10.50am (Australian Eastern Standard Time) on Wednesday 17 June, 17 year-old Mistie-Lea was handed her new glasses by her testing Optometrist Georgina Preece from OPSM in Melbourne, Australia. An update was posted immediately on Twitter for OneSight fans announcing the ‘7 millionth recipient is receiving her glasses now!' so that Luxottica employees around the world could join together to share this momentous occasion. Now, Mistie-Lea will be able to clearly see the board at the school she attends at the Salvation Army's Oasis Youth Support Network.
The event was marked with a media celebration attended by prominent local politicians and national, local and trade press.
Thanks to all Luxottica colleagues around the world for doing your bit for OneSight. Together we can make a difference.
