According to the World Health Organization, 250 million people worldwide suffer from poor vision simply because they don’t have access to or can not afford care. In some countries, a pair of glasses is a month’s salary. Poor vision impedes a child’s ability to learn in school and robs an adult of independence, mobility and quality of life. OneSight volunteers open up a world of possibilities to these people through clear vision.

 

During a recent Clinic, OneSight volunteers met a shy girl named Angel. While waiting to see the doctor, her teacher explained that Angel had been put in “special classes” because she would not respond to pictures and or letters. During her exam, the doctor realized Angel could not see her hand in front of her face. As soon as Angel’s new glasses were placed on her face, she looked around in amazement and started pointing at things around the room. Just that morning Angel woke up to her usual world of blurry vision and by that afternoon, her entire world changed – it was the first day of the rest of her life.
