For more than twenty years, Luxottica employees worldwide grant the gift of sight through the OneSight Foundation
From 1998 to today, OneSight has provided glasses and sight assistance free of charge to more than seven million people and has invested millions of dollars in scientific research and training on sight issues.In 2010, more than 550 employees took part in a OneSight mission in developing countries, made possible also thanks to the more than 44,000 hours of work donated by Luxottica.
During the year, 15 projects were completed and more than 149,000 patients were helped in 11 different countries:
- in addition to the projects already underway in India, Thailand, South Africa, Mexico and Paraguay, OneSight has also successfully completed new projects in West Africa (Ghana, Burkina Faso and Benin) and China; parallel to the international projects, OneSight has developed local programmes in Australia, India and North America, guaranteeing free check-ups in the "Vision Vans", mobile units equipped as optician's studios, which complete the capillary volunteer work in the schools, rest homes and optical stores;
- simultaneous to the support programmes, in 2010 OneSight allocated 250,000 dollars for scientific research to fight diabetic retinotherapy.Again in support of research, in partnership with the four most important Indian schools of optometry, the Foundation has implemented important training programmes; finally, 20 future optometrists will benefit from study grants worth more than 40,000 dollars.
